WordPress And Blogger – Why WordPress Is Best Blogging Platform For SEO

I have no offense towards bloggers who use blogger platform from Google, but this entire post is based on my own experience from the two. I just noticed there are few things about self-hosted wordpress blog which makes it the best option for me over blogger.

1. Option To Edit Urls:
With blogger once your post is up there is no way you can edit your urls again, although it gives you can option to edit your titles, it doesn’t give you any option where you can edit your urls and change its structure. I often end up making the post first with the desired url I wish to achieve and then publish it. After that I would go about editing the post changing the title and publish it all over again. Now this can be frustrating at times especially when you want to make your posts quickly.

WordPress on the other end gives you an option to have a desired url of your liking before and after the post is being made, which makes it a better choice over blogger.

2. Variety Of Templates:
I agree that blogger has a huge variety of free templates to choose from, but the you cannot deny the fact that wordpress leads the race on this aspect, also you can have templates for any type of site which you want to go with wordpress, but most blogger templates focuses on the aspect of blogging restricting your option to have other types of sites with them.

3. Labels vs Categories And Tags:
Blogger labeling option for your post is some feature which kind of frustrated me a lot of times. Where as categories and tags from wordpress are lot more intuitive and makes it easy to achieve the navigation system which you want to achieve without much effort. Although there are ways through which you can do the same with blogger its a really long process and doesn’t work so well like it does with wordpress.

4. Interlinking Possibility:
Wordpress has many plugins which will let you to choose a keyword all over your blog and link it to a url in a matter of seconds. This greatly improves your site rankings in Google and also gives a better PR distribution throughout your blog. Sadly you don’t have such options in blogger.

5. Amount Of Plugins And Widgets:
Wordpress clearly leads the race on this aspect, wide variety of plugins and widgets which you can find with wordpress is nothing really compared to blogger. Blogger has a huge ground of widgets but they don’t have any plugins which can alter little functionalities to suit your needs like in wordpress.

6. Security:
You can say that blogger blogs are more secure over wordpress, but I beg to differ as I have seen lots of webmasters crying over their lost blogs over night and for which they can do nothing about. Self hosted wordpress blogs belongs to you and you control every aspect of it including the hosting, database and its files. If your host fails to deliver what you are looking for, you can always switch it to other hosts.

I do have a lots of other points which I find really frustrating with blogger being a user of wordpress for a long time. I just don’t want blogspot lovers out there to get all fired up over me. So I better stop it here.

Over all, although self hosted wordpress blogs costs you money its the best option to go for. Blogger on the other hand can be great tool to learn about blogging and what you can do with it. Once you have reached to certain level of knowledge with blogging and blogs, I really recommend anyone to not to stick over blogger and move to wordpress as it gives you a totally new and enriching experience you don’t want to miss.
