Search Engine Indexing Some General Information

| July 19, 2010 | Comments (0)

Search engines of these modern days are very much enthusiastic about indexing as many pages as they could. Especially the search engines which are very popular (Google, Bing and Yahoo) wants to get as much information as possible from the internet to provide them to its users and there by enrich their user experience.

I would say each of these search engines must have already indexed few billion documents and they still continue to do so on a most faster pace. Although search engines are very good at grabbing contents from the web, you must know that not all documents or contents are indexed by search engines. It all depends on what type of content you are holding on your site. It depends on several factors whether your contents get indexed or not, most of the indexing part is very much an automated process which depends on algorithms.

You would be wrong if you assume that search engines are totally automated. Google and other search engines pick out sites which they think to be rubbish or spammy and penalize them, sometimes they even go up to removing the site and its indexed pages entirely out of their index.

The whole indexing process and how the indexing exactly works is an really interesting process and most part of it is kept a secret. SEO professionals around the world have been so far very good with guessing how the search engines and how search indexing works through their own experiments and experience which makes up the whole SEO field really interesting and adventurous to get in to.
