I got a question through mail today asking me why did I included category name in my url structure? does this have anything to do with Page rank flow across my blog? If not why do I have it?

Well I think similar type of question was already asked to matt cutts from Google. According to him the answer is NO! your url structure doesn’t have anything to do with flow of page rank across your site or blog. Addressing the question “why did I included the category name in my url structure?”

Being honest I regret the decision, I wanted to rank for the terms in my category names, so I thought it would be an added advantage if I have those terms in my url structure, just like you guys I am also learning new things in SEO everyday from other webmasters and online marketers. I learned there are many other effective ways to rank for the terms you want to rank other than including those terms in your url structure.

I really recommend anyone to keep their url structure as simple and short as possible and including only your post names in the permalinks is really what I would recommend to my readers, unless you want your url structure to be terribly long for your users to remember of course.

I usually just go with %postname% . I do have an article directory where the structure has the category first and then the postname like this…%category%/%postname%/.

Strangely enough, and I can’t remember where, but I read for WP blogs, the optimal structure is …..%post_id%/%postname%.

    Great Blog btw
