Why I am Not Using Facebook Fan Page On This Blog?

| April 3, 2010 | Comments (8)

I got this question from a subscriber of this blog, he wanted to know why I don’t use facebook fan page for this blog while I am using twitter? reason is not that I am an enemy of facebook, it has got something to do with the mind set of people who use both of these sites and the nature of this blog too.

According to me people who use facebook are those who want to have some time to have fun, relax and interact with other people or at least majority of them have this mind set. On the other hand people who use twitter not only quickly interact with others, they have this mind set to look for people who specialize in a particular field and follow them to know more information from them. Twitter doesn’t have the fun features which facebook has like facebook apps, videos and things which will get the users engaged in to things which they don’t look for in the first place.

According to the stats I have about this site, my readers are those who want to know valuable information about how to make their online business a success and those who really work hard on it. These kind of people don’t spend much time on facebook, rather they spend more time on Twitter. Further more visitors from social media sites don’t tend to spend much time on technical sites such as this one, they are more inclined towards entertainment sites. Its one of the main reasons why I don’t prefer using facebook for this site.

Will my rankings be affected due to this?
NO! your facebook accounts don’t have any influence over the way you rank in search engines.

Other reason is I personally don’t like Facebook, people who want to interact with me can do so through need help section and twitter page, Facebook is not a great platform to interact when compared to twitter which is simple, direct and also time saving.

I think Facebook is for people who want to waste their time or those who don’t know what to do in their free time, those who feel alone and desperate? Twitter is for people in the business and I am a person in business.

You have got a point here most of facebook uses are just there for the fun and games although facebook can bring you a lot of traffic to your site with twitter i think its lossing its sting a bit

Hmm you are right facebook can bring in some traffic but I don’t think its a real converting traffic like the ones you get from search engines. Its not really worth to have more hits from social media sites like facebook for internet marketers. But on the other hand I don’t think facebook will be popular as it is now in another 4 or 5 five years, we have seen what happened to orkut, myspace and other social networking sites and what happened to them in the past.

The popularity which facebook holds today will eventually fade off, but micro blogging sites like twitter will continue to grow, because its the best way to interact with your customers, get to know updates on what’s happening around the web in real time.

Like you think Twitter is not is losing its sting, its really growing currently it ranks at number 12 in alexa rankings but you will soon start to see its rank will move up.

Facebook seems very useful when using a broader niche such as cooking however it is almost worthless for a marketing campaign using a topic such as SEO. I however have noticed recently their have been lots of marketers using a killer technique where they will give you a certain report if you invite all your friends to join their facebook page. Anyone have any ideas on how that is accomplished? I am not exactly the best programmer on the block (hope to be their soon though!).

Given some of the statistics generated by FB including average time on site of over 4 minutes, anyone marketing online ignores it at their own peril. That being said, I don’t have a clue how to properly use FB fan pages to make sales. We’re doing an ok job interacting with current customers (many of which don’t use Twitter) but growing the customer base hasn’t happened yet through FB.

Face book is simply a tool, your post is mostly an opinion based without any real data. Facebook can be used as a communication tool, blog updates can be automatically posted and some people prefer to get their information using that site. By not using it you are simply excluding 400,000,000 people from you potential audience. Not a wise decision.

You are also limiting your content by not using it, a lot of bloggers are interested in learning to use it in order to increase traffic. Since you won’t be teaching them they will learn it from someone else and from that point on they might just decide not to go to your blog for information since the other blogger provides more and better information.

Yeah I think its a bad decision but I think I can survive with it. I do not disagree with you though. I am just not in line with using facebook but using it might very well help me yes!..
