How To Submit Your Sitemaps To Google Webmaster Tools
This question is been asked repeatedly by many new bloggers and webmasters alike across the web. So I decided to make a short tutorial on the whole process of submitting your sitemaps to Google webmaster tools.
Before we get going just know that sitemaps are just a way to let the search engines know about your pages which it may not find otherwise. But submitting sitemaps doesn’t guarantee high rankings for your page. I just want to make this one more clear because many think submitting sitemaps means higher rankings for their pages which is not true at the time of writing this article and I am sure this will hold true for many more years to come.
Before you can submit your sitemaps to Google you need to create an account for “Google Webmaster Tools” which of course like any other tool from Google is free to use.
In order to open your account for webmaster tools just go to this url https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools and sign up for an account. You would also be needed to respond to Google’s confirmation e-mail in order to activate the account.
Once you have responded to the confirmation email, you should be ready to go. After logging in to your account you will be presented with a dashboard where you can add your site using the form given there.
Next step will be to verify your site using any of the methods Google suggests. Once you have verified your ownership of the site, you can proceed to the next step in the process.
Click on Sitemaps under site configuration option.
Next click on submit sitemap and add your url location in the form which pops up.
After submitting you need to wait for about 10 mins for Google to download your sitemap and validate it. Once the validation is complete your job is over.
If by chance you get any error in the validation process just double check the location of your sitemap and make sure you have entered the right url in the form provided by Google webmaster tools.
Hope this tutorial really helps people who had no idea how to submit their sitemaps to Google. I will try to get you more detailed information about sitemaps in the future posts.
