We have seen that how the results are going to be more and more based on user experience in the future, so we need to make sure the visitors who are reaching your pages through search engines are really satisfied. From a users point of view something that really annoys me when I get to a website is advertisements.
One of my friends who was running his video blog for more than 2 years successfully with a lot of user base and subscribers just got a little greedy and he started to sign up with some affiliate program, where he will install a small javascript in to his website which will force users who visits his website with a popup window to complete a survey. He of course earned some money initially but as days passed by his hits per day started to reduce drastically and he saw his subscribers starting to unsubscribe. Also his bounce rate started to shoot up to almost 90% and his revenue from on page ads started to reduce drastically.
Not only that people started to love his competitors site ignoring him. Now this can potentially affect your rankings in Google now, as I told you before Google will take a note of your bounce rates and alter your rankings accordingly, in the past though your bounce rates are high, your rankings are not affected by it, but now the case is entirely different, Google does look in to your bounce rates and alter your rankings accordingly.
When you start a site you need to make sure that your ads are not actually affecting your visitors from accessing your contents, also when you place popups that asks visitors to do something in order to access your contents, it also potentially keeps the search bots away from accessing your contents.
Things that you need to keep in mind while placing ads on your sites are
1. Don’t let advertisements from blocking your page contents
2. Don’t place advertisements that are not relevant to your site’s content
3. Don’t place way too many advertisement that it becomes hard for users to find the actual page content.
4. Avoid using annoying pop ups and pop under ads.
5. Let visitors be your first concern over advertisements, when you satisfy your visitors, money will start to follow.
I recommend using Google adsense, reason is adsense shows up ads that are closely related to your site’s content, when search engines finds ads that are not related to what your actual site is about they assume your site to be spammy in nature, which could reflect in the way they rank your site.
