Have you ever had an experience when you notice that your site’s pages suddenly drop rankings in Google without any caution? whether you have experienced it or not, there are thousands of webmasters who around the globe who has been a victim of this kind of phenomenon from Google. I have personally seen many of the website owners screaming at Google webmaster forums that they have lost thousands of hits to their site over night and it continues to drop over a period of time consistently.

Fortunately this kind of weird action from Google is not uncommon and its really quite normal with relatively new sites and I have experienced the same with some of the old domains as well. This kind of phenomenon is termed as Google sandbox effect by SEOs and webmasters. So here are some details you need to know about this and how you can get out of Google sandbox quickly if you are an victim now.

Its been thought that buying a old domain will get you around the sandbox effect, but from my experience it is wrong to assume so. So you should know that Old domains doesn’t mean a way around Google sandbox. Google only notices the time when your site gets actively contributing contents and take that active period in to consideration rather than taking the domain age in to consideration.

Its really sensible to ask that why should be your site a victim of sandbox effect? There are many possible reasons as to why your site should under go this effect.

  • Lack of considerable original content on the site, its quite normal to see a new technology site undergoing a dip in the traffic and then start to see a bounce back in traffic over a period of time, as most technology sites do tend to have similar looking contents.
  • Abnormal Link building and building large amount of backlinks to the site over a short period of time. Google notices your link growth pattern and if it assumes that the pattern looks suspicious it will closely watch your site’s activity and do drop your rankings over this period.
  • Sites made for Adsense alone, there are thousands of sites that are constructed merely to get clicks on adsense ads and doesn’t really contribute good contents to the users, its quite normal to see such sites dropping their rankings.

3. How To Get Out Of Google sandbox

Last but not least we are in the important part of the topic, so how to get out this Google sandbox effect if you notice your site is a victim? here are some tips that will really help you for quick recovery from the problem.

  • Don’t quit updating your site, its normal to see a webmaster heart broken when see suddenly notices a drastic change in the site’s traffic, but you should know that Sandbox effect is a temporary one and quitting to update your site periodically will make the search engines that your site is dead as its not breeding new contents. So make sure you site is updated as it used to be in the past.
  • Write unique contents, if you think that your site doesn’t have much of a unique contents in it, then take steps to write a good amount of contents that appear unique to search bots. Make sure your contents are at least 200 to 250 words long.
  • Build links back to your site, do not stop to build links to your site. More links you got to support your site more chances you got for the quick recovery of your site rankings.
