Increase Your Internal Links In Your Blog Through Smart Links Plugin

Many people really do under estimate the power of internal links, we tend to think that links pointing to different posts within our same site carries no value, but this assumption is wrong and not true, when you have a look in to sites like wikipedia they absolutely tend to dominate the search engines for many less competitive search terms. Reason for lies in their power of internal links, if you happen to just look at a page in wikipedia you will be amazed with the amount of internal links they have in their site.

Wikipedia can be an extreme example in this case but still using internal links in your blog will still prove to be of great help in your on-page optimization methods. You should know that searching for each post and linking your post to another one in appropriate location and keywords is really more demanding work than ever.

But this plugin smart links created by Vladimir for wordpress really ease your work to automate the whole process provided you do a little ground work on finding keywords for each post and specifying them in the settings area of this plugin.

Once you install this plugin and enter the settings area which looks like the one shown below.

you can specify where you want the links to appear in your blog, you can avoid links to self because it don’t make much sense, other than that you can also specify whether you want the links to appear in your posts or pages. Some people do not want their links to appear in pages, you can un-check the pages option to ignore the links to appear in pages.

You can set automatic link targets to categories, posts, tags and pages. you may wish to ignore some keywords like about, author etc.. and also you can restrict some pages from showing links to other pages or posts.

To want specific keywords to be linked to specific post then all you need to do is specify the keyword or you can also specify multiple keywords seperated by comma and followed by the url for link.

You can restrict the number of times a link should appear in a post in the settings, I would set some restrictions on that, but its up to you whether you want some restrictions or not.

If you are linking to an external page and if you wish not to give any link juice to the external link then you can add no-follow attribute to those links too and also make them open in a new window that way when someone clicks on an external link they will not leave your website.

Over all its an excellent plugin for SEO and reduces you workload to a great extent when used correctly. I really recommend using this plugin and I wish the author of this plugin do update this plugin for future versions of wordpress.
