  • Buying A Banned Domain Is It Advisable?
  • 5 Possible Reasons For Why You Might Be Losing Your Search Rankings
  • Does Incoming Links Affect Your Search Rankings
  • ]]>

I have seen this question in one of the webmaster forums which I would like to address here because I think it would be helpful for my readers. Many people think that spending couple of hundred of bucks on a dedicated server would benefit them in terms of search rankings but is it really true?

I have seen many webmasters deny that claim and say that dedicated servers has got nothing to do with your rankings but I beg to differ because search engines look in to many minute details of your site than you think, they collect datas from many different sources to value your site. So one of the things they look in to is your server ip-address.

Its quite possible that if you are on a shared server then your rankings might get affected because many other sites are also sharing your ip along with you, if one of the sites is spamming and gets banned then one who is going to get affected by it is not only going to be the domain which was banned but also its ip, if search engines finds your site is also hosted on the same ip and server then it will start to look at your site with some suspicion and that might in turn reflect in your search rankings.

Also unless you buy your hosting from a reputed company shared servers most of the time have lots of problems with the downtime, downtime are something which is definitely not good for you in terms of SEO.

On the other hand dedicated servers potentially reduces these risks as you are the only person who holds the entire server, only your sites will be hosted in the server and everything comes under your control. Also search engines tends to trust the sites that are hosted on dedicated servers more easily than sites that are hosted in shared servers. But do you really need a dedicated server to solve the ip issue? answer is NO! though its good to have a dedicated server when you can afford one, if you cannot afford one then you can always opt to buy a separate ip-address for your domains that way you can avoid potential issues that might well reflect in the way your web-pages rank in search engines.

  • Are Writing Meta Descriptions Waste Of Time Now?
  • Does Attending SEO Conferences Affect Your Rankings
  • Avoiding Google Duplicate Content For Technology Sites
  • ]]>

Its probably one of the common questions being asked by many bloggers, in fact I had this question once in my mind and I was looking for an convincing answer all over Google from from SEO guru out there and guess what? yes I got the answer at last. So here is the answer.

Make Use Of The Meta Datas:
I know many or even most of you out there who are blogging regularly don’t feel like loading up the meta datas, yes we are so lazy to do that, but when you are having a video or image site then you need make sure you are not leaving it blank. Try to fill in the meta description, meta tags, meta titles area as it gives you a slight advantage over other image and video sites who don’t really care to do it, I am sure there is plenty out there who don’t care to load up the gun.

    Write A Small Description:
Having an Image or video oriented sites doesn’t mean you are excused from writing a small description about the video or image your site is holding, also users will find it really interesting and get more information about the video they want to watch so you are potentially increasing the user experience of your site as well by writing descriptions also you get a very good chance for ranking better on many keywords you might use in your descriptions, search engines likes descriptions so don’t leave a single video without adding some meaningful and unique description written by you.

Make Use Of The Alt Tags:

Why not make use of the alt tags in image code? search engines do look for it when you are hosting images in your site or blog, its one of the main information which search engines look for to bring up your images in image search search feature which you can find in many search engines now a days. Be sure to use it.

    Make Use Of Youtube:

When you have an video site its best idea to have your video hosted in youtube, as you will get massive exposure for your video and also its a best place to promote your site to people. You can also save a handful of bandwidth by hosting your videos in yourtube instead of hosting it in your own servers. That’s something I would highly recommend doing.

incoming links Does Incoming Links Affect Your Search Rankings
This is one of the sensible questions I got from one of my blog visitors. I would like to answer this question because many webmasters think building links on a bad neighborhood can have a negative impact on their over all search rankings.

Personally I would want to believe so because it makes sense. When I build too many links on junk sites its natural for search engines to suspect that this site must be a junk too, but its not really the case, if that was the case then your competitor can use some automated to tools to spam your links across the web and get your search rankings down. So Google or any other search engines don’t use this type of metric system to analyze the site.

If your links are coming from good trusted source then search engines gives more weight to those links and if your links are coming from spam sites then your links will not carry any value at all. Its one of the main reasons I give more stress on building more quality links than quantity links because the time you spend for building 20 junk incoming links which has no real value or no real impact on your rankings could be spent on building two links on very trusted source which will have some real and long lasting impact.

But on the other hand you need to make sure to whom you are linking to from your site or blog as well, when you link to a spamy site then it sure does have some negative impact and impression on your site. Best way to avoid this type of problems where you could step in to unwanted problems by linking to a spamy site without your knowledge is to give a no-follow tag for all your outgoing links.

I decided to take some videos from Google webmaster help channel from Youtube and give out my views on the videos which are updated there, because I think it will make more sense, also it will help you a lot knowing some real good inside information about what Google really expects from you and your websites being a webmaster.

In this video where Ryan from Michigan asks a funny question, he wants to know whether attending conferences will affect his rankings. Watch the video for answer from Matt Cutts.

To tell the truth attending the conference will not directly influence your rankings in search engines, but it can prove to be so, if you are able to make use these conferences which are mainly organized for SEO people, bloggers, webmasters etc.. because you will be exposed to many people who are related to you by profession and who are in the same line of work as you are. If possible you can meet up with some good webmasters and talk about exchanging links with them or writing a review about your blog on theirs or allowing you to write a guest post in their blog. These things will have a great influence over how your pages are ranked in search results.

Also you can exchange some ideas which you follow to get your site popular and in turn others can project their own ideas and in my view conferences are all about brainstorming ideas. If you get a chance to attend any of the conferences that is happening in a near by place to yours then don’t be lazy get there and you will be really happy that you did.

Looking for something new to post on your blog that will attract links can be challenging at times. We often get so into one train of thought as to how we want our blog site to look or feel that we forget to explore other options. This comfort zone of blog posting bliss can leave us unwilling to try new things when it comes to our blog, and this unwillingness to change can hurt our blog’s success. If you’re looking for some ways attract links with your blog, here are a few ideas that might help.

    1. End With an Invitation
Sometimes all it takes is a friendly invite for thoughts, ideas and opinions to get the ball rolling. You might be surprised at what kind of response you get from ending a post with a brief invitation for comments regarding your subject matter. While the responses may or may not be positive, if they get people talking and interested in your site, they can help in attracting links to your blog.

    2. Podcasts
A podcast can be a great way to get your thoughts and ideas out to a broader audience. While this can take a bit more skill that your average post, a podcast can be an original way to attract links and keep your audience in the loop. Keeping your podcasts on a set schedule (daily, weekly, bi-weekly, etc.) can make it easier for listeners to get into a routine so that they can count on your newest post being available at a certain time.

    3. Contests
Offering a contest for your visitors to compete in can be a great way to invite activity to your blog. Often, you don’t even have to be offering a great prize. Sometimes just a t-shirt or similarly simple prize is enough to stir the pot when it comes to motivating people to enter your contest.

    4. Interviews
Depending on your blog’s theme or niche, conducting interviews could be a perfect original post idea. If you have professional contacts or know experts in certain related fields, you could utilize this network to set your site apart from others and give your content more clout. The opinions of an industry expert could have much more influence than you just spouting your own ideas and opinions.

    5. Timing With Major Events
When something big in the news correlates with your blog topic or theme, it could be a prime opportunity for increased traffic. For example, if your blog is about geologic events such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc., posting about topics related to the recent events in Haiti or Chile could drive immense numbers of viewers to your blog.

    6. Tip List
Tip lists can be eye-catching blog posts. Tip lists or top tens are often easy on the eyes, don’t take long to scan through, and are often great sources of quick information for readers. Becoming known for your ability to convey pertinent, relevant, and original information in an easy to read format can make your blog a popular site.

    7. Dish the Inside Dirt
People often love having an insider’s viewpoint on various topics. It makes things more ‘real’ and gives the ideas expressed more authority. This is also a great way to get people talking about your site. When people realize they should visit your site for insider information, they may be more likely to spread the word to friends and associates.

    8. Howto Guide
Doing ‘how to’ posts may not be that original, but how original you are able to make them may largely depend on the subject matter. If you’ve found a particular niche that hasn’t yet been filled, doing how to posts on that particular subject matter could prove to be a big hit.

    9. Step-by-step Photo Essay
If you want to one-up the how to guide, you might want to consider a step-by-step photo essay. Sometimes pictures are easier to follow than a written guide, and if you have the know-how to provide a great step-by-step guide to doing something, you could have a great original post idea on your hands.

    10. Infographics
Sometimes some great graphics are all you might need to make your posts a bit more original. A video, a funny cartoons, graphs and spreadsheets or whatever works for your site could make you stand apart from the crowd.

KnockOut Link Building Strategy To Knock Off Your Competition And Get To The Top
Today I decided to give you some really powerful way to build link, that will prove to effectively knock off your competition off your way and get your site to the top if used properly. Before we get going I want to share an important information with regards to SEO and how search engines discover whether your links placed in some other web page is really relevant or not.

One of the way which search engines look for is topical relevancy of the webpage and website to the page that is linked to them, other way is by looking in to the sites that are already linked from the webpage or website, for example if site A is relevant to your site is found on the page where you want to place your links, search engines will consider your site is also relevant to site A (who is supposed to be your competition) and moves your page to the top for the keyword you are focusing on or in other words for the keyword you placed as anchor text for your link.

So with this in mind we can really take advantage of spying your competition who are in the top 10 or top 20 of Google index for your search term and check where their links for the particular page comes from and build links on exactly same page or exact same websites so that search engines will look in to those links and finds your site to be more relevant for the search term and move you up accordingly.

To do this just make a search in Google for your search term and make a note of all the top 10 or 20 urls that are ranking high for it in a notepad. Once you are done just use some back link checker tool, there are free tools available online for this, try to Google “back link checker” and I am sure you can find couple of tools in the first two position. So just copy and paste your url one by one on the tool and make a note of where are the links coming from for those pages.

If you are lucky you will sometimes find many links are found on social bookmark sites, blogs, article directories, general directories etc.. where you can easily place your links in to for free, if the links are coming from sites where you cannot possibly place your links in, then try to contact the webmaster of the site and try to offer him some link exchange or ask him does he charge any money to place your links on his site.

This method will prove to be really powerful if used rightly. Just stick on to 10 links a day rule and make sure you are not spamming your links in on a single day that will look more suspicious for search engines.

  • Why Are External Links Important For Your Site
  • 5 Truths On Why Pagerank Is Still Important
  • Does .gov & .edu Links Carry Special Value In Terms Of SEO?
  • ]]>

I am sure many of you are well informed about the fact that links play a very major role in terms of SEO and I have came across many SEO articles which gives more stress on back-links that points to your web page. Today I decided to throw some little light on the issue as to why links play a vital role with your site growth. Here are some top three reasons on as to why links play a major role in terms of site’s growth.

    1. Search Engines Find You through Links:

Many SEO knows the fact that submitting your site to search engines is a useless method to follow and its something which don’t work at all. The more authentic way to get in to search index is through links you build on other sites, its only through those links will Google and other search engines tend to find your site and decide up on whether to get your site in to their index or not.

    2. People find You Through Links:

Its not only that search engines will find your site through back-links you build for your site, its also the people who will find you through your links. If you don’t agree with me on this, just know that if you happened to get in to front page of digg for a single day your site will at least tend to get 10k visitors in a single day and your server might almost crash, that’s an impressive amount of people. But you don’t need to get in to digg to get that much amount of visitors, but if you manage to get your links in to atleast 1000 well established websites or blogs you will get at least 100 hits a day through those links and that’s an impressive amount of people who find you on a daily basis without investing your money in to PPC programs.

    3. Your Links Determines Your Authority And Rankings In Search Engines:

your links not only gets your site in to search engines, but in fact it determines where your web pages should rank in search engines for your search terms, also more links you build on a quality site more authority you will start to gain for your keywords and your site.

I want to throw more light on this particular topic just because of the reason that many webmasters, I mean many amateur webmasters tend to think that PPC and SEO oppose each other and they both are diametrically different approach for a common goal that is ROI.

No matter whatever business you are in to or whatever business you are planning to get in to, what you are absolutely looking for is return of investment, because if you are not getting proper returns in your business then you will be forced to ultimately quit your plans or change your way of approach to get back the invest you are making.

With ROI in mind a good professional webmaster can analyze his market strategies with PPC instantly, instead of focusing and wasting thousands of dollars for paying to an SEO professional he can very well take a good keyword and analyze how the particular keyword converts for him, how many sales he could make with a certain amount of visitors, this gives him a clue whether its a good idea to dominate the search position for the particular keyword.

Just think if you are paying $1000 for a SEO professional to get you on to the top for a particular keyword to ultimately find out that its converting you at all, in that case you have wasted your $1000 for worthless keyword, but on the other hand if you have made an adwords campaign for the same keyword with $100 budget then you might have very well known in advance that its not the right keyword to focus on and you could have potentially saved $900 from being wasted.

PPC is a great way to invest on and analyze the results which gives you more clarity over your SEO campaign, instead of blindly focusing a keyword out of your mind and spending thousands of dollars over it.

There has been many people who used to contact me for tips that are basically related to internet marketing which is of course is not my field of expertise. So I thought of making a post on the topic to enlighten people with regards to the difference the two.

    What Is SEO?

SEO can be expanded as Search engine optimization which is basically self explanatory that it has something to do with search engines, something related to optimizing or tweaking your site in such a way that it ranks high search engines and there by getting you the needed the exposure you are looking for in your business or for some other purposes it differs from person to person.

    What In Internet Marketing:

Internet marketing mainly deals with doing business online, promoting your product to make a sale for your or for your affiliated sites there by making money from it. People employ different strategies to gain exposure to their product online like article marketing, using social media sites, using adwords etc.. and these methods are even involved in SEO but that doesn’t mean internet marketing and SEO are one and the same in fact they both are different.

Internet marketers most of the time look for instant results for their pages but on the other hand SEO does not promise any instant results but it only does prove to be very effective on the long run.

There are internet marketers out there and there are professional internet marketers who look for long term goals for their products and they tend to use SEO for their advantage. But remember SEO and internet marketing are two different things, search engine optimization mainly focuses on search engines where as internet marketing tend to look in to various other sources to gain exposure including search engines and SEO can be used as a part of the strategy for your internet or online marketing but in my opinion they both are different though both the processes involve similar methods.

This is one of the hot topics of SEO, many link builders and seo professionals charge more money for building links on sites with .gov and .edu, so does these links carry special value in terms of search engine optimization? does search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo give more value to these links than links from .com and .net?

Well this question was once asked to Matt Cutts who is a well known staff of Google who clarifies doubts and shares tips to webmasters around the world. According to him these links do no carry any special value like its assumed to be by many webmasters, but from my view point considering the fact that not everyone can register for a .gov or .edu domain names as it requires special permissions, these links must carry some special value, they might even carry more PR.

From the experience of many webmasters and SEO professionals these links do give a slight advantage and lift the position of your site in search rankings for certain. So why does Google has to deny the fact that it does when it was asked so?

Reason may be that people may start to spam these sites which might potentially nullify and abuse a metric system they use in their algorithm to rank web pages possibly. But whether it carries some weight or whether it is just an illusion of many webmasters to believe it that way, getting a backlink from a well recognized sites and sites that carry some authority does have more value over other low quality links that might not do you any good.

My suggestion would be don’t worry too much about building links in these domains, build links that will really benefit you rather than searching and wasting your time in looking for these domains and building links on them.
