After a while I stopped on the way and started to think “Do I really have the desire to see the temple at the top?” answer for that is of course NO!. Then what’s the need to strain myself so much in to something which I have no interest in the first place? If some sensible questions pops up in my mind which I have no answer for then I am humble enough to accept the fact and withdraw my effort.In fact that day I ended up withdrawing my way up the hill. Its painful when you do not have the desire.

On the other hand I have seen people giving up their jobs, their parents and what not to be with their beloved. Whether they found their happiness with their beloved or not is not our concern here.

What is the real point I want to make here is, you need to know the depth of your desire with blogging in the first place. Your money will never get back to you, may be the person might have made thousands in selling his useless blueprint to wondering minds.

Again problem has been people are not ready to strain and need a shortcut and there are no shortcuts which is the truth, but we are not ready to accept the truth and our curiosity will end up deceiving us always.

I know I have not touched the core part of this article so far, but I need to get the basics clear to my readers which I think is the main motive of me running this blog. Most bloggers even the popular ones are just beating around the bush instead of making the basics clear to their readers. So with this knowledge in mind lets move the main part.

People Have Needs

First thing to know to become successful with blogging is, people have a need, need for what? Mostly need for information, there are also other needs like need for a product, need for music etc. Whatever the need may be basic thing to know is people have a need when they use search engines or browse through your site. People do not care to visit your site if you are not fulfilling any of their needs. I have came across many people who start a personal blog, posting their life experience, photos they took during their trips etc.. just know that unless you are super popular no one really cares other than the people who are close to you to visit your blogs and read your experiences.

Fulfilling The Needs

Popular sites like facebook, twitter or even Google have not got popular because these sites are well advertised. If you believe so its wrong. People had specific set of needs when they are online and these sites had been very receptive enough to respond to their needs in a more efficient way. People do not get to facebook because it looks great, people reach to it because it efficiently fulfill their needs over other similar sites.

This has to be the primary aim of your blog as well. How efficiently are you going to make up for the people’s need?

Do You Have Enough Information and Knowledge

What ever niche or topic you have decided to blog about, you need to ask yourself what is the level of your knowledge on the particular topic? If you have no knowledge about what you want to blog about then start by gathering knowledge, its not always necessary that you should know the nuts and bolts of niche you talk about on your blog. You can learn many things on the way and share the things you learn along the way.

What Is The Level Of Your Interest?

Coming back to where we started before, you again need to know what is your level of interest on the topic you choose to blog about, do not just blog about something which you have no interest over or start blogging about something just because its a high paid niche on adsense or so. Doing so might prove to be useless on the long run and you might end up frustrated.

Be Free To Experiment

Its not always clear to many what really interests them and what does not. Honestly I can relate myself to it, I had no idea what really interested me when I started to blog, I try to blog about a particular topic over a month and then end up abandoning it and start with a whole new blog, I have abandoned more than ten blogs till  found out SEO and blogging is the topic which really interests me. My advice is be free to experiment until you find the topic which really interests you.

Competitors?

Do not give too much importance to your competitors and feel they are a threat. In fact I hate to use the word competitor, but I do so because most people feel comfortable that way. Find people who are already in to the niche that interests you and gather knowledge through their blogs, if you think you can replicate their ideas in to your own feel free to do so. It is only by gathering more knowledge ideas start to surface. Some times competitors might just hold the key who knows?

Keep Moving

All that is needed to reach your destination is to keep moving, If you think you have just found your topic, then keep moving, keep updating your blog regularly, build links, gather more readers just keep your blog alive. Active blogs always get popular over a period of time, in fact search engines loves blogs which are active on a consistent basis.

One of the major problems with having an entertainment blog or blog about celebrities is that, its very likely that people tend to steal your images and use it on their own sites or blogs. By stealing I do not just mean stealing your pics and using it, what I really mean is using the url of your own images in to their sites. This is a very bad practice in the first place and its definitely not recommended unless you are using a common source for sharing your images with sites like tinypic.com. Images consume more bandwidth every time a user browse through the pictures found in your domain you lose more bandwidth than browsing the text content of your site. So just imagine your images being stolen with the url and used on ten other blogs. You are going to lose more bandwidth just because someone assumed that you are more generous. When I mention this I do not misunderstand that its out of the possibility or occurs on some rare occasions, this is a commonly faced problem with many major blogs and small blogs are no exception as well.

So how you can go about preventing hot linking images from your wordpress blog? here is how.

Thanks to .htaccess that we can easily prevent this problem with a tiny bit of codes. Open your .htaccess found in your blog root and if it doesn’t exist create one and add these lines to it.

All you need to edit in the above code is the “domain” part to your own domain name, otherwise the code will not work. For example my blog url is seoyourblog.com and I need to replace the “domain” with seoyourblog to make this code work. Above code prevents stealing of images in png, jpg, jpeg, gif formats. If you want to add additional file formats just feel free to edit the code above and add additional file types.

Paginating wordpress comments feature was built in to the software itself from the version 2.7, so you do not need to fight with the codes in your theme files to achieve it, instead just change the settings to your preference using following steps.

Get to Settings -> Discussions options

Browse through other comment settings

You can break the pages with number of comments you want to appear on each page, my blog is set to 10 comments per page, but you can set to whatever number you think will be the best for your site.

There is a duplicate content issue problem

Paginating comments is a great idea to reduce the blog load time and reducing the page length, but there is a problem with duplicate content issue. When you paginate the comments area, each comment page will have the same post displayed at the top followed by the comments found on that page. This is a serious problem in terms of SEO. For example if your main post url is

http://yourdomain.com/mypost

comment pages will be

http://yourdomain.com/mypost/comments-page-1

http://yourdomain.com/mypost/comments-page-2

So that practically means except for the comments all these pages will display your main post.

So what is the solution?

Solution will be to use seo for paginated comments plugin

what does it do?

This plugin will make excerpt of the post on comments page leaving a ling to the main content page. This will be your solution to avoid the duplicate content issue and this plugin comes in quite handy to over come this problem.
