WordPress Installation Guide For Dummies
I have already posted a wordpress installation guide on how to install wordpress using the fantastico option in your control panel that comes with your hosting provider most of the times, this time I have decided to dig more deeper and the reason is I wanted to cover all set of audience, there are people who really don’t know what to do with their hosting and there are people who have no idea how to install wordpress when they don’t find fantastico option in their cpanel. So I decided to roll out a tutorial that will cover those set of people. so here is a little detailed guide that will help them to go through the installation process more deeply and guide them in to successfully installing wordpress on their server. You can also make use of Web Design Sydney to help you get professional design for your wordpress blog.
Step 1:
So before we get going what you really want to install a wordpress?
Yes! you need a web host and a web hosting space which you can use to run your wordpress site and if you don’t own any hosting space then you must go ahead and look for web host and I promise you can find a lot of web hosting companies out there who sell hosting space for a cheaper price but make sure you are getting in to a more secure web hosting company something like “Web Gator” who are in the industry for a long time now and they can provide you with the best service possible.
Step 2:
So you now own a web host so what you will be needing next?
You will need some local tools, what do I mean by local tools? there are couple of things that you will be needing in order to transfer and edit your files more quickly and easily.
FTP client: FTP client software helps you to transfer the files from your computer to your server directly and there are number of free ftp softwares available out there and the one I use is “Flash FXP” which is not really free but you can download a trial version from their website and use it for 30 days and if you like it then you can pay for a full version with limits lifted.
For free FTP software (windows based PC):
check http://filezilla-project.org/
Mac OS based PCs:
check out: http://cyberduck.ch/
Text Editor: you need this to edit some of the files so that it helps you with installation and normal text editor like notepad will do but just make sure that you are not using word to edit these files, at first its hard secondly it has some issues when you do that so just try to use wordpad or notepad which are simple and also fast loading ones.
Downloading wordpress:
To download wordpress software you can just go to http://wordpress.org/download/
So it lets you to download the latest version of wordpress.

Now you need to setup your database you need to login to your cpanel then click on mysql database

so when you get in you will get a box where you can enter your database name and then click on create database button

Once you have created the database then its time for you to create a user for your database. Once you scroll down to the bottom of the mysql page you will see an option where you can create an user. So just enter appropriate username that you will remember and a secure password and create an user account.
Once you have created a user next step you can attach it with the database

I assume you have unzipped your wordpress document by now if you browse through it you will find a php file called wp-config.php so just try to edit it with your notepad or wordpad or any other text editor you feel comfortable with and locate the section like the one you find in the picture below and fill out your details.

here is a sample of filled out part

So once you are done doing this then upload the files to your server through your FTP software and once you are done then point your browser to your url or where you have uploaded the wordpress files so you will taken to a screen which looks something like this. where you can enter the blog name and your email.

so in the next screen choose that you want to show up in Google and other search engines unless you want your blog to be private.
So in the next step click Install and you will be given a username and pass and of course username is what you have chosen before but your password is not so make sure you copy and paste your password in some secure location but you can change the password later on once you get in to your admin panel, and also your password will be emailed to you so don’t worry if you have mistakenly skipped over that screen.

so you can now login for the first time and you are ready to rock! I hope this tutorial would have helped you to some extent if you new to this blogging world and have no idea how to install a wordpress script. Good luck with your success!
