Age old question, so what is a blog really? I started to blog when I was doing my second year at college, to be more precise it was during the year 2006 and I was really not that successful, successful in the sense I was not getting any visitors to my site, I really thought all you need to get popular online is by just starting a blog and do some posts about your life and people will flood in to your blog out of no where and that’s one of the most stupid assumptions I had at that time and its only later on I came to realize that you need to optimize your blog for search engines to get traffic and that’s where my real journey on SEO actually started and I was not an SEO expert at that time, I learned few things here and there like directory submissions, article writing etc etc from a guy called Henry ( I don’t know his real name!) who owns a successful site called tailedfox.com, so I worked for tailedfox.com initially for few days and traded my time for SEO and later on of course I quit working for him and started to work for other sites for a better pay and when I started to enter my third and final year at college I was making enough so that I could afford my college fees myself ( its a not big achievement education in my country is relatively less expensive than in US) and so when I was finishing my college my uncle asked me a question.
Of course the question is a very basic one, he asked me “what are you going to do?” I told him I am going to blog, he has no idea what a blog is, so he asked me BLOG? what is that? I really had no idea how to explain him on what is a blog! so I took him to my PC and showed him my blog site and told him “this is a blog”, he was surprised and asked me “what will you do with it?” I told him that I will post articles in this blog, he started to give me a strange look, “so that’s what you are going to do in future?” I started to feel guilty and told him yes that’s what I am going to do and he continued to stare at me and at last went to my Dad and told him to please advice your son and ask him to find a job that really makes him work, but really its hard to find a dad like mine he never forced anything up on me, he politely told my uncle “he does what he likes and I will not force anything up on my son”.
So getting back to the topic what is a blog? well I am going to tell the same thing what I told to my uncle, what you are seeing now and reading now is a blog and whatever I post here is updated here as simple as that. There is no limitations or restrictions in what you can share and post, that’s the beauty of blogs and blogging. I hand overs you the power to share your knowledge to the world directly from you, you don’t need to look for publisher to publish your works or spend money to print your books and that’s the reason anybody can blog, even my uncle can blog, my dad can blog, you can blog and if you manage to train your money to operate a computer then even your money can blog and it is as simple as that, that’s the power of blogging and that’s the power of web 2.0. I am not going to give a great lecture on what is a blog and I already made a great lecture so I think its more that enough.
