Understanding Media Settings In WordPress

Media settings in wordpress can be accessed under settings options in your admin panel and media settings is mainly used to control the dimensions of your uploaded images.

When you upload an image to wordpress through your admin panel two things happen.

1. Your image is uploaded to the appropriate directory and location, location which was set under miscellaneous settings

2. Two thumbnails of two different size is created, a small sized thumbnail and a medium sized thumbnail image.

the dimensions of these thumbnails is what can be controlled and altered to your needs under media settings. You can set these values depending up on your needs also depending up on space available for you in your template.

Crop thumbnail option here will crop the image to the required dimension for the small thumbnail rather than resizing it, if you want those thumbnails to be resized instead of croped then you need to un check this option.
