How To Add New User As Author in Wordpress

author for blogsThere may be occasions where you want to hire some writer to do the content part for your blog and you cannot just straight away hand over your account details to him, its like handing over your car key to some stranger and asking him to Drive away your car. So you need to create a user account where he will only have access to write contents and edit his contents so today we will see how you can accomplish that.

To the left of your wordpress admin panel look for the option called “users” and expand it if its not already in the expanded mode and click on “add new” option.

users tab wordpress

Once you have clicked on the add new option, you will get a form which will look something like in the picture shown below. Make sure you fill in the required columns like “user name” “e-mail” and “password” and in the role drop down box choose “Author”

role author wordpress

Why you need to choose the role as author is because author will only have the permission to create and publish new posts and moderate comments on those posts and he won’t have permission to edit other person’s posts or moderate comments on those either. So its a nice way to restrict the person you hire to posts articles on wordpress.
